White House
Poughill, near Bude, Cornwall — Sleeps 15 — Dogs welcome

White House is a seven-bedroom house in the village of Poughill, less than two miles from Bude and walkable from the door to both Northcott Mouth beach and the South West Coast Path. It sleeps fifteen, has a plunge pool, a sauna, a pizza oven, a covered BBQ lodge for year-round outdoor dining, a greenhouse with seating, a badminton court, a croquet lawn and a large enclosed garden. For a group that wants space — inside and out — it’s one of the most complete houses in the collection.

Poughill is a small village on the edge of Bude with a pub, public footpath access in multiple directions and a quieter feel than the town itself. Bude is under two miles away on foot via road or cross-country path — a golf course, leisure centre, swimming pool, tennis courts, shops and two beaches. Northcott Mouth, the rugged beach directly accessible from the village, has no seasonal dog restrictions. Clovelly in Devon is 14 miles north. Padstow is 30 miles south. The Eden Project is around 50 miles.

White House is managed directly by the owner. The link below takes you straight to their website to check availability.

Interior

The entrance hall sets the tone — wood burner, generous proportions, the kind of space that tells you immediately the house was built to hold a crowd comfortably. To the right, the main lounge is a dual-aspect room with an original parquet floor, comfortable seating arranged around a Smart TV and a DVD player, and garden views on two sides. Next door, the dining room has garden-inspired decor and a door directly onto the terrace — useful for drinks outside before dinner without going the long way round.

On the other side of the dining room, a snug with a second Smart TV, an Xbox and a selection of board games — the room the children tend to occupy, which gives everyone else their evening back.

The kitchen and breakfast room has an electric range oven and induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and an American-style fridge/freezer with an ice maker. Beyond it, a utility room with a second fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, an additional WC and a door to the garden. On the ground floor, one double bedroom with garden views and an en-suite shower room completes the lower level.

Upstairs, seven bedrooms styled individually with most overlooking the garden. A bunk room (top bunk for children only) connects through to a large bedroom with a king-size bed and a single day bed — the two rooms together forming a practical family suite. A bathroom with a freestanding roll-top bath, separate shower and WC sits nearby. Two further double bedrooms, a contemporary shower room, an extra WC, another double with en-suite shower room, and a large triple bedroom with three singles beside a second freestanding roll-top bath, separate shower and WC.

Two dogs welcome.

Exterior

The enclosed garden is the main event. A large decked sun terrace with garden furniture. A pizza oven. A covered BBQ lodge — the kind of structure that makes outdoor eating possible in any weather, which in north Cornwall is not a minor consideration. A greenhouse with seating inside. A badminton court. A croquet lawn, a children’s swing and enough lawn for boules, relay races and anything else a group of fifteen can think of. A plunge pool and a sauna. Ample private parking on the driveway.

Poughill and Bude

Northcott Mouth is the closest beach to White House — a wide, exposed bay with no seasonal dog restrictions, reachable on foot from the village via the South West Coast Path. It’s quieter than Bude’s main beaches and stays that way even in August. Crooklets Beach in Bude, also open to dogs all year, is under two miles by road or cross-country footpath. Summerleaze, Bude’s most central beach, restricts dogs on the main section 10am–6pm from 1 May to 30 September — but Crooklets and Northcott Mouth mean there’s always a year-round option within easy reach.

The South West Coast Path passes close to the house heading north toward Hartland Point and south toward Boscastle and Tintagel — two of the more dramatic sections of the entire trail. Bude itself is walkable from Poughill via the public footpath, which avoids the road and adds about twenty minutes to the journey. The canal walk south from Bude — four miles one way along a largely unchanged 19th-century waterway — is flat, easy and completely dog-friendly.
