Comrie Holiday cottage

Property details

Comrie
Bude, North Cornwall — Sleeps 8 — Dogs welcome

Comrie is a four-bedroom house in the centre of Bude, a short walk from Summerleaze Beach and the South West Coast Path. It sleeps eight across four individually styled bedrooms, has a wood burner, bi-folding doors onto an enclosed patio with a hot tub and sea glimpses, and a utility room with a hot and cold outdoor shower — the kind of practical detail that makes a real difference after a long day on the beach with three dogs. Parking for one car at the front, with further roadside parking nearby.

Bude sits at the top of the north Cornish coast, close to the Devon border. The town has a golf course, a leisure centre with a swimming pool, tennis courts, a wetland nature reserve and a canal that runs inland from the beach. The South West Coast Path passes through town in both directions — north toward Hartland and south toward Boscastle and Tintagel. Port Isaac is 27 miles south, Padstow 30 miles. The Eden Project is a 50-mile drive if you want a full day inland.

Interior

The house is accessed from street level on the first floor, opening into a bright entrance hall with a skylight and feature lighting — an unusual layout that works well once you’re inside. The stairs lead down to the ground floor living space: corner sofa, wood burner, Smart TV and bi-folding doors onto the enclosed patio. A separate snug with a second Smart TV sits alongside — useful for separating the group when the evening calls for it.

The kitchen runs along one wall with an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Just beyond it, a utility and wet room with a washer/dryer, shower and WC — the practical end of the house where sandy kit, wet dogs and beach gear all go.

Back upstairs, four bedrooms each styled differently. A super-king master with an en-suite shower room. A king. A twin. A bunk room suitable for children up to 14. The family bathroom has a freestanding bath and a separate shower.

Three dogs welcome.

Exterior

An enclosed rear patio with garden furniture, sea glimpses and a private hot tub. A hot and cold outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach — dogs included. One private parking space at the front of the property.

What to know before you arrive

Summerleaze is the main beach in Bude — a wide, sandy bay at the mouth of the River Neet, with a tidal seawater swimming pool cut into the rocks at the southern end. Dogs are welcome on Summerleaze outside the main bathing area from 1 October to 30 April; from 1 May to 30 September the main beach restricts dogs 10am–6pm, but the northern end near the river mouth stays open. Crooklets Beach, ten minutes north on foot, is open to dogs all year with no restrictions and is the better option for dogs in summer.

Northcott Mouth, two miles north along the coast path, is a quieter beach with no restrictions at all — worth the walk for the emptiness alone. The South West Coast Path north from Bude toward Hartland Point is one of the more dramatic sections of the entire trail, with high cliffs and very few people outside summer.

The Bude Canal runs south from the town into the Cornish countryside — a flat, easy walk of around four miles each way, entirely dog-friendly. The canal was built in the 1820s to carry sand inland for farming and is now a peaceful, largely unchanged stretch of water.
