Property details

Karn Havos
Mawgan Porth, North Cornwall — Sleeps 6 — Dogs welcome

Karn Havos sits above the Bedruthan Steps sea stacks on the north Cornish coast, with views across the Atlantic from the living room, both bedrooms and the sun terrace. It sleeps six across three bedrooms, has a private hot tub, parking for two cars and an inverted layout — bedrooms on the ground floor, living space above — that puts the best views exactly where you spend the most time.

Mawgan Porth beach is 1.5 miles away and open to dogs all year with no restrictions. The beach is sheltered by high cliffs on both sides, has rock pools, caves and a stream running down the southern side, and holds Blue Flag status for water quality. Watergate Bay is 3.5 miles south, Harlyn Bay 6 miles, Newquay 7 miles. The South West Coast Path runs directly past the property in both directions.

Karn Havos is managed directly by the owner. The link below takes you straight to their website to check availability.

Interior

A feature balustrade staircase leads up to the first floor open-plan living, kitchen and dining space. Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors run the full width of the room — the sea view and the sea stacks below are what you came for and the layout makes sure you can see them from the sofa, the dining table and the kitchen. A Smart TV in the living area for evenings when the weather closes in.

The kitchen is along one wall, with leather bar stools at the island for informal meals and a dining table for evenings when the group wants to sit together properly.

Downstairs, three bedrooms. The master has a king-size bed, sea views, a patio door to the front of the property and an en-suite with a double walk-in rainfall shower. The second bedroom has a king-size zip-and-link bed. The third has a zip-and-link king-size and its own en-suite shower room. A family bathroom with a bath and overhead shower completes the ground floor.

Two dogs welcome.

Exterior

A sun terrace accessed directly from the living space — the place to be on a clear evening when the light on the sea stacks changes. A private hot tub. Parking for two cars.

What to know before you arrive

Mawgan Porth beach is open to dogs all year with no seasonal restrictions — one of the reasons it works so well as a base for dog owners. The South West Coast Path runs 1.5 miles north from Mawgan Porth to Carnewas at Bedruthan, where the National Trust has a café at the clifftop. Note that the steps down to Bedruthan Steps beach itself are currently closed following a cliff fall, and the National Trust has confirmed the beach will remain closed for the foreseeable future — the clifftop walk and the views are accessible, but not the beach below. The coast path south from Mawgan Porth toward Watergate Bay passes Beacon Cove and is one of the quieter sections of the north Cornwall trail.

The Merrymoor Inn in Mawgan Porth village welcomes dogs. Watergate Bay Hotel, 3.5 miles south, allows dogs in its casual dining spaces. Newquay, 7 miles, has Fistral Beach open to dogs all year with no restrictions — 750 metres of sand and one of the best-known surf beaches in the country.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Karn Havos dog-friendly?

Yes. Up to two dogs are welcome and have the run of the house. There is a sun terrace and hot tub area outside, though the terrace is not enclosed — dogs will need to be supervised outside the house.

Which beaches near Mawgan Porth are open to dogs year-round?

Mawgan Porth beach itself is open to dogs all year with no restrictions. Watergate Bay, 3.5 miles south, is also open to dogs year-round. Fistral Beach in Newquay, 7 miles away, has no dog restrictions at any time. Harlyn Bay, 6 miles north near Padstow, is open to dogs all year.

Can you walk to Bedruthan Steps from Karn Havos?

The clifftop at Carnewas above Bedruthan Steps is reachable via the South West Coast Path — about 1.5 miles north of Mawgan Porth. The view of the sea stacks from the clifftop is the one the house looks over. The steps down to the beach itself are currently closed following a cliff fall, and the National Trust has confirmed the closure is ongoing.

What is Mawgan Porth like for exploring north Cornwall?

It sits between Newquay and Padstow — roughly 7 miles from each — which puts most of the north coast within 30 minutes. Watergate Bay and Harlyn Bay are both short drives. The South West Coast Path runs through the village. It’s far enough from Newquay to avoid the crowds while being close enough to use the town when you want it.

Does Karn Havos have sea views?

Yes — from the main living area, the sun terrace and the master bedroom. The house is positioned above the Bedruthan Steps sea stacks with open Atlantic views.
