Property details

Lilyville
Polbathic, near Looe, Cornwall — Sleeps 2 — Dogs welcome

Lilyville is a one-bedroom cottage in the south-east corner of Cornwall, close to the Whitsand Bay coastline and within easy reach of Looe, Polperro and the twin fishing villages of Kingsand and Cawsand. It sleeps two, has slate floors, beamed ceilings, a wood burner, underfloor heating, a roll-top bath and a private hot tub in an enclosed garden. The kind of cottage that earns its place on a quiet weekend in October just as much as a week in July.

South-east Cornwall is quieter than the north coast and tends to stay that way even in summer. The South West Coast Path runs along the clifftop above Whitsand Bay. Looe is 11 miles east, Polperro a little further. Kingsand and Cawsand, two small harbour villages joined at the edge, are the closest settlements of note — good for a morning walk and a coffee. Bodmin Moor is 21.5 miles north if you want a full day on open moorland.

Lilyville is managed directly by the owner. The link below takes you straight to their website to check availability.

The ground floor is open-plan — slate floors, beamed ceilings, a wood burner and underfloor heating. A kitchen running along one wall, a dining table and a sitting area that invites slow mornings and long evenings in equal measure.

Upstairs, the king-size bedroom has a high vaulted ceiling and exposed floorboards. The bathroom has a roll-top bath and a separate shower cubicle.

One bedroom, sleeping two. Two dogs welcome.

Exterior

The enclosed cottage garden has a lawn, a patio with outdoor dining, and a private hot tub. Parking for three cars — useful if you’re meeting friends or family nearby.

Whitsand Bay and south-east Cornwall

Whitsand Bay is a three-mile stretch of sand on the south-east Cornish coast, backed by high cliffs and largely inaccessible by car — you reach the beach by steep footpath from the clifftop. Tregantle Beach is seven miles from Lilyville, Tregonhawke Beach nine miles. Both are open to dogs and rarely busy outside summer. The South West Coast Path runs the length of the clifftop above the bay — one of the less-walked sections of the path and noticeably quieter than the north coast equivalent.

Kingsand and Cawsand are worth a morning — two villages that were historically in different counties (Devon and Cornwall respectively, before the county boundary moved in 1844) and still feel slightly different in character. Dogs welcome in both. The Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, which runs along the headland between Cawsand and Plymouth Sound, is open to dogs and has around 10 miles of waymarked paths through parkland and formal gardens.

For a longer day, Looe is 11 miles east — a working fishing town with a dog-friendly east beach (restrictions from Easter to 30 September, 10am–6pm on the main beach; the west beach has different rules) and several dog-friendly pubs and cafes on the harbourside. Polperro is four miles further, a smaller and steeper village best visited on foot from the car park above — dogs welcome on the coastal path down and in the harbour area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Lilyville dog-friendly?

Yes. Up to two dogs are welcome and have the run of the cottage. The garden is fully enclosed, which gives dogs space outside without needing to be watched. The surrounding lanes and footpaths are good for off-lead walking away from the road.

How far is Lilyville from the beach?

Tregantle Beach on Whitsand Bay is seven miles away, Tregonhawke Beach nine miles. Both are reached by steep footpath from the clifftop car parks. The South West Coast Path along the clifftop above Whitsand Bay is more accessible for a daily walk and has some of the best views on the south Cornish coast.

What is south-east Cornwall like for a dog-friendly holiday?

Quieter than the north coast and the far west, with a coastline that doesn’t get crowded in the same way. Whitsand Bay has three miles of beach. The Mount Edgcumbe Country Park has 10 miles of dog-friendly paths. Kingsand and Cawsand are within easy reach for a morning walk. Looe and Polperro are 11 and 15 miles east respectively.

Does Lilyville have a hot tub?

Yes — a private hot tub in the enclosed garden. Also underfloor heating and a wood burner inside, which makes it a good choice outside of peak season.

How many cars can park at Lilyville?

Three cars, on private parking at the property.
