Downderry, Cornwall — Sleeps 6 — Dogs welcome
Sandpipers is a three-bedroom beach house in the village of Downderry on the south-east Cornish coast, with private access to the beach directly below and uninterrupted sea views from the living room, the upper deck and the lower terrace. It sleeps six across three en-suite bedrooms, has a games room, a large upper deck with a BBQ and a lower deck with sun loungers at the garden’s edge. One dog welcome.
Downderry is a small coastal village with a café and a pub within walking distance and both Downderry and Seaton beaches open to dogs year-round, each within a mile. Looe is 7 miles west, Polperro 10 miles, and the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand — separated by a county boundary that moved in 1844 — are 11 miles along the coast. Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, 11 miles, has around 10 miles of dog-friendly paths through parkland and formal gardens overlooking Plymouth Sound. Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary is 3 miles away. Adrenalin Quarry, with zip lines and giant swings over a flooded quarry, is 9 miles. The Eden Project is 27 miles.
Sandpipers is managed directly by the owner. The link below takes you straight to their website to check availability.
The open-plan living, kitchen and dining space runs across the top floor, floor-to-ceiling windows on the seaward side framing the view from every part of the room. The kitchen is modern and well equipped — high-end appliances, a breakfast bar for casual meals and a dining table for evenings together. Large sliding doors open the room entirely onto the upper deck, connecting inside and outside when the weather allows.
The living area has deep sofas arranged around a large Smart TV — the room works as well for a film night as it does for sitting with the doors open and watching the sea.
Three bedrooms, each with its own en-suite shower room and a Smart TV. Two super-king doubles and a twin. Each bedroom has its own distinct character, with white linens and a coastal feel that keeps things calm and uncluttered.
The games room has a multi-games table, dartboard, games console, Smart TV and sofas — a useful second space when the group wants to split up in the evening.
One dog welcome.
The upper deck runs along the back of the house, large enough for the whole group to eat and sit out together. A BBQ and garden furniture. Sliding doors connecting directly to the living space make indoor/outdoor dining straightforward.
The lawned garden steps down to a lower deck at the water’s edge — sun loungers, open sea views and a noticeably different atmosphere to the upper terrace. The private beach access is from here.
