Property details

West Pine
South Tehidy, near Portreath, Cornwall — Sleeps 6 — Dogs welcome

West Pine is a single-storey, three-bedroom property in the Tehidy countryside, set back from the north Cornish coast with Portreath, Gwithian and Porthtowan all within 6 miles. The architecture is the first thing you notice — vaulted ceilings, large windows and a layout that keeps the whole house on one level, with just two steps down into the sitting room. Inside: a wood burner, a freestanding bath, a built-in sound system and a hot tub on the enclosed Mediterranean-style terrace. In the garage: a pool table. Two dogs welcome in a fully secured garden.

Tehidy Woods — one of the largest areas of ancient woodland in Cornwall, managed by Cornwall Council — is within easy reach of the property and has miles of dog-friendly trails through mixed woodland. Tehidy Golf Club is 1.7 miles away. The coast is a short drive in any direction: Portreath to the north, Gwithian and Hayle to the west, Porthtowan to the south-west. St Michael’s Mount at Marazion is 12 miles, Porthleven 14 miles, St Ives 14.5 miles.

Interior

The entrance hall leads into a property that feels larger than its footprint suggests — vaulted ceilings throughout, light coming in from multiple directions, all on a single level with no stairs to navigate. The sitting room is two steps down from the main floor, a deliberate architectural detail that separates the spaces without closing them off. A wood burner sits between the sitting room and dining area, visible from both.

The open-plan kitchen and dining area has countryside views, a breakfast bar, a dining table and a built-in sound system. The kitchen is well-equipped for a group of six cooking properly rather than making do.

Three bedrooms, each with a Smart TV. One has an en-suite shower room. The main bathroom has a freestanding bath and a waterfall shower — good for the end of a long day in Tehidy Woods or on the coast.

Two dogs welcome.

Exterior

The enclosed garden has a Mediterranean-style terrace, sun loungers and a private hot tub. Mature planting on the boundaries, a lawn, and a white-walled terrace — fully secure for dogs. The large garage has a pool table.

West Pine can be booked alongside its neighbouring sister property to accommodate larger groups.

Tehidy and the north Cornwall coast

Tehidy Woods is the starting point for most mornings. The country park covers around 250 acres of ancient woodland with well-maintained paths, open glades and a lake — dogs on leads in some sections, off-lead in others. It’s a 10-minute drive or a manageable walk depending on exactly where in Tehidy you’re staying.

Portreath, 6 miles north, has a sandy beach in a cove backed by high cliffs. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year outside the lifeguard patrol area in summer. Gwithian, 6 miles north-west, is part of the three-mile stretch of St Ives Bay beach — open to dogs year-round on the Gwithian section with no restrictions. Porthtowan, 5 miles south-west, is a surf beach open to dogs year-round. All three are noticeably quieter than the more famous north coast beaches further east.

St Michael’s Mount at Marazion is 12 miles south-east — a tidal island reached by a causeway at low tide or by ferry at high water. Dogs on leads are welcome on the causeway and the harbour area, though not inside the castle itself. Porthleven is 14 miles south, St Ives 14.5 miles west.
