More Details
Entry is free, and the sanctuary offers so much more than just donkeys. Wander the walking trails, explore the interactive exhibits, and take in the award-winning gardens, all while enjoying spectacular views over the coast and countryside. There’s also a brilliant play area for children, and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep everyone entertained no matter the weather.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome throughout much of the site, making it a perfect choice for a relaxed and inclusive family outing.
When it’s time for a break, head to the sanctuary’s café, where the focus is on fresh, local, and seasonal produce. From hearty lunches to tempting cakes, served with views of the sea and surrounding hills. You’ll find vegetarian and vegan dishes alongside responsibly sourced meat options, all aligning with the sanctuary’s values of compassion and sustainability.
Before you head home, pop into the gift shop, where every purchase helps support the sanctuary’s life-changing work. Whether it’s a donkey mug, a soft toy, or a gift for a loved one, you’ll find something to suit all ages and budgets.
You can also adopt one of the donkeys, a lovely way to stay connected after your visit. There’s a donkey for everyone, and adopters can even follow their progress via the sanctuary’s live webcams.
Founded in 1969, The Donkey Sanctuary has grown from a small local charity into a global animal welfare organisation, dedicated to improving the lives of donkeys and the communities who depend on them.
Open every day from 9am, with free parking and no admission charge, The Donkey Sanctuary is one of Devon’s most dog friendly, feel-good attractions.
