Dog Friendly Holidays in Bude
Best Beaches, Walks & Places to Eat with your Dog
Bude is one of the easiest towns in Cornwall to enjoy a dog friendly holiday with your dog. You’ve got wide sandy beaches, coastal paths with big sea views, and plenty of dog friendly places to eat and stay. Whether you’re here for a week or just a couple of days, you’ll find it easy to fill your time without needing to leave the area.
One of Bude’s biggest draws is that you’re close to several dog-friendly beaches. Summerleaze Beach is just a short walk from the town centre and is open to dogs all year, with a lead restriction in place during the main summer hours. For somewhere quieter, head a little north to Northcott Mouth or Sandymouth Bay, both of which welcome dogs year-round and give you miles of space at low tide. Crooklets Beach is also nearby, open to dogs outside of the summer season.
If you enjoy walking, you’re spoilt for choice. The Bude Canal path is flat and easy, with plenty of spots to stop for a coffee or snack along the way. For something more rugged, the South West Coast Path runs in both directions from the town – you can walk south towards Widemouth Bay for clifftop views, or north to Sandymouth and beyond for quieter, wilder scenery. Even short loops around the headlands give you that hit of fresh sea air without committing to a long trek.
Bude is well set up for dogs when it comes to food stops too. The Barge café sits right on the canal and is a relaxed spot for breakfast or lunch. Life’s a Beach offers outside seating overlooking Summerleaze, while The Falcon Hotel’s bar area is happy to welcome four-legged guests. There are also plenty of small cafés and pubs dotted around the town and along the coast path where dogs are just part of the crowd.

Dog-Friendly Beaches in Bude
Summerleaze Beach – Just minutes from the town centre, Summerleaze is dog-friendly all year, although dogs must be on a lead from 10am–6pm in summer. The wide sandy expanse is perfect for a morning run, and there’s the added bonus of the sea pool for a quick dip.
Crooklets Beach – Right next door to Summerleaze, Crooklets allows dogs in the winter months (1 October–31 May). In summer, you can still walk along the connecting sand at low tide to reach more dog-friendly areas.
Northcott Mouth – A quieter option just north of town. It’s dog-friendly year-round and has a mix of sand and rock pools to explore.
Widemouth Bay (Black Rock end) – The southern end of Widemouth Bay has seasonal restrictions, but the Black Rock section is open to dogs all year. Great for longer beach walks and fewer crowds.
