Tallet is a barn conversion on a small beef and sheep farm in the east Devon countryside, set in a private courtyard shared with one neighbouring barn. It sleeps eight across four bedrooms, has a wood burner, a range-style electric oven, an enclosed garden with hill views and a firepit in the communal courtyard below.

The village of Payhembury — a pub, a community shop and a shingle river beach — is a short walk along the lanes. The farm also hosts the village cricket club, with a pitch for hire and a bar and BBQ on match nights. The Jurassic Coast is ten miles south. Sidmouth, Seaton and Beer are all within easy reach for a day on the coast. Two dogs welcome.

Interior

A private pathway and three steps lead up to the main entrance on the first floor. The hallway has a WC and a separate utility room with a washer/dryer. The open-plan living and dining space runs across the width of the barn, with a wood burner in the sitting area and a kitchen running along one wall. The kitchen has a range-style electric oven and hob, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave and a coffee machine. The views over the rolling Devon hills are best from the kitchen end of the room.

Downstairs, four bedrooms. A king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room. A second king-size with an en-suite wet room — shower and WC. A king-size zip-and-link bedroom, configurable as a twin on request. A twin bedroom. A further bathroom with a freestanding bath, a separate shower and WC is shared between the zip-and-link and twin rooms. Two dogs welcome.

Exterior

An enclosed garden directly off the first floor kitchen and hallway, reached by a flight of external steps. Patio furniture, a BBQ and views over the Devon hills. At ground level, a communal courtyard and children’s play area are shared with the adjacent barn. A firepit in the courtyard for evenings. Off-road parking for four cars in the adjacent parking area.

What to know before you arrive

Payhembury village is a short walk along the country lanes from the farm — a traditional Devon village with a pub and a community shop. The River Tale runs through the village with a small shingle beach good for children and dogs. The farm hosts the village cricket club on match nights, with a bar and BBQ open to guests.

The Jurassic Coast is ten miles south. Beer beach restricts dogs from 1 July to 31 August, 10am–6pm — outside those hours dogs are welcome on the full beach. Branscombe, three miles west of Beer, is open to dogs all year. Sidmouth has a long esplanade walk open to dogs year-round. The South West Coast Path runs along the clifftop above all three, connecting them into a full day’s walking if you want it.

Inland, the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty covers the countryside around the farm — a network of footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes through farmland and woodland. The Blackdown Hills are eight miles north and largely unexplored compared to the more visited parts of Devon.
