The Lobster Pot Holiday cottage

Property details

The Lobster Pot
Hayle, West Cornwall — Sleeps 6 — Dogs welcome

The Lobster Pot sits on Hayle Wharf, harbour views from every floor, three miles of beach a short walk away. The Times named it the best beach in the UK in 2024. St Ives is six miles west. The property was professionally interior designed and has been featured in interiors magazines — three floors, a four-poster master bedroom with a private balcony, bi-folding doors onto a harbour-view terrace, and a private mooring alongside.

Hayle sits on a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the eastern end of St Ives Bay. The RSPB manages the estuary behind the town — one of the most important wetland habitats in south-west England and a serious draw for birdwatchers. Hayle was the first town in Cornwall to receive Walkers Are Welcome status, and the footpath network reflects that. Both the north and south Cornish coasts are within 15 minutes by car.

The Lobster Pot is managed directly by the owner. The link below takes you straight to their website to check availability.

Interior

The ground floor opens with underfloor heating and a hallway with space for sandy shoes and coats. The master bedroom is on this level — a super-king four-poster bed, floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the harbour, a private balcony with seating, a Smart TV and an en-suite shower room. A twin bedroom and a Terrazzo-tiled family bathroom complete the ground floor.

The first floor is open-plan across its full width. A kitchen with leather bar stools at the island, large windows on both sides, and bi-folding glass doors opening onto a balcony with harbour views and seating. Double-height ceilings in the living area, a second Smart TV and enough space to feel genuinely relaxed rather than on top of each other.

The third bedroom is on a private mezzanine above the living space — a king-size bed, an en-suite shower room, and views down over the water. It’s the most private room in the house and tends to be a quiet spot above the activity of the floor below.

Exterior

A secure storage shed for water sports equipment and beach gear sits by the front door. A private mooring adjacent to the property. Parking for one car included.

What to know before you arrive

The beach at Hayle runs for three miles from the estuary mouth to Godrevy Head, with different sections having different names and slightly different access. Mexico Towans, the central section, is open to dogs year-round with no restrictions. The sections closest to the estuary mouth can be tidal and narrow at high water — check the times before heading to the far end. Godrevy, at the eastern end of the bay, is National Trust land and open to dogs all year. The lighthouse there is the one Virginia Woolf had in mind for To the Lighthouse.

St Ives is six miles west along the coast road. Porthminster and Porthmeor both have seasonal dog restrictions from 15 May to 30 September, 10am–6pm, but Bamaluz Beach in the town is open to dogs year-round. The coast path between Hayle and St Ives is walkable — about five miles one way, with the St Ives Bay Line running back if legs give out.

The RSPB Hayle Estuary reserve is accessible from the town on foot. It’s a significant site for wading birds and wildfowl, particularly in winter. Dogs on leads throughout.
