The Appledore Townhouse is a luxurious single-storey coastal house in the centre of Appledore, the working harbour village in north Devon. Eight people across four bedrooms with three bathrooms. A private hot tub on the decked area in the enclosed wraparound garden. And — unusually — a converted-garage cinema room with ten cinema seats and a 75-inch Smart TV, useful in the days when the weather doesn't behave.

Appledore itself has shops, galleries, family pubs serving food, restaurants and the Maritime Museum within a short walk. Westward Ho! is two miles south for golden sands, the unique pebble ridge, and Northam Burrows Country Park. Bigger family days out are at the Big Sheep, the Milky Way Adventure Park, and RHS Rosemoor — all within easy reach by car.

Interior +

A few steps lead up to the front door and into the property. The open-plan lounge, kitchen and diner sits at the heart of the house, anchored by a floor-to-ceiling feature window that pulls light right through the space. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and coffee machine. The lounge area is laid out around comfortable sofas with a Smart TV and DVD player. Soft furnishings, considered colours; the kind of room that makes you feel like you've arrived properly.

All four bedrooms run off the hall behind. A super-king zip-and-link with TV (can be made into a twin on request). A twin with TV and Wii console — a thoughtful touch for younger guests. A king-size with TV and en-suite shower room. A further king-size with TV and en-suite wet room. The family bathroom with shower over bath sits between them.

The converted garage at the end of the hallway is now a ten-seat cinema room with a 75-inch Smart TV and surf board racks. The original utility — washing machine, tumble dryer — sits alongside.

Exterior +

The enclosed garden wraps the property — lawn for children and dogs, a decked area with garden furniture for outdoor meals, and a private hot tub for evenings. The whole space is genuinely enclosed, which matters if you're bringing dogs that can't be trusted with a low fence.

Westward Ho! Beach is two miles south. Long, sandy, with a famous pebble ridge that links it to Northam Burrows Country Park — open to dogs all year. Surf schools, restaurants, bars, shops, cafes and amusements. The kind of beach that suits a long, unhurried day.

For wider family days out, the Big Sheep and the Milky Way Adventure Park are both worth knowing about. RHS Rosemoor — one of the South West's loveliest gardens — is within a comfortable drive.

In the evenings, the cinema room is the trump card on rainy nights. The hot tub is the trump card on every other night.
