A three-storey wharf house with harbour views and a private mooring.

Professionally designed, featured in magazines, three miles of award-winning beach on the doorstep.

The Hayle Cottage is a three-storey wharf house on a UNESCO world heritage site at the edge of Hayle harbour, on St Ives Bay. It was professionally interior-designed and has appeared in various magazines — which is less a promotional claim and more a fair description of what the interiors actually look like. Immaculate. Terrazzo tiles, leather bar stools, double-height ceilings, bi-folding glass doors opening onto a harbour-view balcony. One dog welcome.

The location puts three miles of Hayle beach within walking distance — the stretch of sand at Gwithian and Hayle Towans was voted the best in the UK by The Times in 2024. Hayle is the first town in Cornwall to be awarded Walkers Are Welcome status, and the RSPB manages the estuary for bird-watchers. St Ives is six miles, with the Tate and the Barbara Hepworth Museum. Guests can drive between Cornwall's north and south coasts in around fifteen minutes from here.

Interior+

Entry at ground level into a hallway with underfloor heating and space for coats and shoes. Two bedrooms on the ground floor: the master, with a super-king four-poster bed, floor-to-ceiling windows with harbour views, en-suite shower room and a Smart TV — and its own private balcony with seating. A twin bedroom and the family bathroom, immaculately tiled in Terrazzo.

Up to the first floor: the open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining space. Leather bar stools around the kitchen island. Large windows with natural light from multiple sides. Smart TV with double-height ceilings and bi-folding glass doors opening to a balcony with harbour views and seating. The design is magazine-worthy without feeling untouchable.

Up to the mezzanine level: a third bedroom overlooking the living space with more views of the water. King-size bed and an en-suite shower room.

Exterior+

A secure storage shed by the front door for water sports equipment and beach gear. A private adjacent mooring — available for guests' use if relevant to your plans. One car parking space at the property. The harbour, the estuary and the beach are all within easy walking reach.

A short guide to Hayle, St Ives Bay and the western Cornish coast.

Hayle sits at the neck of St Ives Bay where the Hayle estuary meets the sea. The RSPB manages the estuary — a serious bird-watching destination in autumn and winter; a pleasant wide walk at any time of year for dogs, as it stays emptier than the beach. Hayle itself was the first town in Cornwall to receive Walkers Are Welcome accreditation, and the footpaths are well maintained as a result.

Gwithian Towans and Hayle Towans form part of a three-mile arc of sand dune-backed beach — some of the cleanest and widest in Cornwall. Dogs are welcome. The beach was voted the best in the UK by The Times in 2024. At the far northern end is Godrevy Lighthouse, familiar to anyone who has read Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse.

St Ives is six miles. The Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden are the cultural highlights; Porthmeor and Porthminster beaches are the practical ones. The drive between Cornwall's north and south coasts takes around fifteen minutes from Hayle — making it possible to choose your beach based on the forecast each morning.

Hayle's facilities are improving — a good supermarket, restaurants and cafes are all within walking distance. The Cornish Mutual building, the former copper smelting works at the quay, gives the town an industrial heritage depth that most seaside towns don't have.
