An architectural coastal house with panoramic Atlantic views.

Five bedrooms, a cinema room, a private hot tub, and Morte Point on foot.

The Mortehoe Clifftop House is a five-bedroom contemporary house set high above the north Devon coast in Mortehoe, with floor-to-ceiling glass and panoramic views across Combesgate Beach and out to the Atlantic. It sleeps twelve, has a hot tub on the decked terrace, a cinema room, a snug with a wood burner, and a children's games space with a PlayStation. The South West Coast Path runs past the door. Morte Point is 1.5 miles on foot. Woolacombe's main beach is half a mile away.

The house sits directly above Combesgate Beach — 200 metres down the steep path. The beach itself bans dogs from 30 April to 30 September, which is worth knowing before you plan your days. Putsborough Sands and the section of Woolacombe Beach south of Mill Rock are both open to dogs all year and within easy reach.

Interior +

The front door opens into a hallway leading to a large open-plan living, kitchen and dining space on the upper floor. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto the decked terrace, pulling the sea views into the room. A breakfast bar with an integrated coffee machine, a solid oak dining table seating twelve, and a Smart TV in the lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped for a group of twelve cooking together comfortably.

The cinema room sits on the same level — a full-size screen, comfortable seating and a space that earns its place even in good weather. The snug has a glass lantern roof and a wood burner. A children's games area with a PlayStation 4 Pro sits separately. A WC completes the upper floor.

A floating staircase with glass balustrades leads to the bedroom floor. Three king-size bedrooms, all with en-suite shower rooms and sea views. Two have balconies. The third has a floor-to-ceiling glass wall, a walk-in wardrobe, a Smart TV and a Juliet balcony. A family bathroom with a freestanding bath. Two bunk bedrooms — one with a single set of bunks, the second with two — complete the sleeping accommodation.

Exterior +

A large decked terrace with a glass balustrade and a hot tub, capturing the open sea views from every angle. A storage area with surfboards and bodyboards for use of guests.

Worth being clear: the outdoor space here is a deck rather than a lawn, so it is not enclosed in the way a fenced garden would be. Better suited to dogs that are happy on hard surfaces and supervised outside than ones that need running space at the property itself. Off-lead beach walks at Putsborough or south Woolacombe are within easy reach.

Private parking for three cars at the property.

A short guide to the beaches, headlands and dog rules nearby.

Woolacombe's beaches are divided into zones with different seasonal rules. The northern end (Zone A) bans dogs from 1 April to 30 September. The middle stretch (Zone B) requires dogs on leads from 1 May to 30 September. South of Mill Rock, dogs are off-lead all year with no restrictions — the largest and most open section of the beach.

Combesgate Beach, 200 metres below the property, bans dogs from 30 April to 30 September. In summer, head to the south of Mill Rock on the main beach, or to Putsborough Sands four miles south.

Morte Point, 1.5 miles north along the coast path, is National Trust land open to dogs all year. Grey seals can sometimes be spotted in the water below the point. The circular walk from Woolacombe to Morte Point and back is around three miles — one of the best short headland walks on the north Devon coast.

For wider exploring, Ilfracombe is six miles east — independent shops, places to eat, and the famous Tunnels Beaches accessed through the cliffs.
