A Victorian house with a turret lookout.

Five en-suite bedrooms, a vast lawn for dogs, and Porthleven harbour a short stroll away.

The Porthleven House is a grand Victorian house tucked in a secluded location yet just a short stroll from all the attractions of Porthleven, the working Cornish harbour village. Ten people across five en-suite bedrooms — five bathrooms in total, which is the rare large-house configuration that actually delivers privacy. Generous proportions, slate flooring with underfloor heating, period detailing throughout, and a turret containing a 'lookout' room reached by a spiral staircase.

Porthleven is the kind of village that holds visitors year on year — restaurants, cafes and local shops centred on a working harbour. Coastal walks lead from the village in both directions. Kynance Cove (14.2 miles) is renowned for its turquoise water and wild rock formations. St Michael's Mount at Marazion is 8.3 miles. The wider Lizard Peninsula is within easy reach.

Interior+

Through a traditional Victorian front door into a generously proportioned entrance hall, slate-tiled and warm underfoot from underfloor heating. Off the hall, a sophisticated study overlooks the garden — useful if work follows, or as a quieter reading room. A classic sitting room with bay window, calming decor, and a setting for chess. The grand living-dining room, seamlessly connected to the kitchen, is the heart of the house — Smart TV, large wooden dining table, room for the full party.

The kitchen is the cook's room: a Rangemaster cooker, granite worktops, a central island with three stools. Off it, a utility room and a cloakroom. Then up the beautiful split-level staircase to a feature landing within the turret — a reading nook formed by the curve of the wall, the kind of detail that justifies the renovation.

Five bedrooms, all en-suite. The master is a true highlight — distant sea view, super-king bed, an en-suite shower room and a claw-foot bath positioned within the bedroom itself. Three king-size bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms. A twin bedroom with en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a spiral staircase that climbs to a 'lookout' room with enchanting coastal views beyond the village — a hidden room, the kind children remember.

Exterior+

The paved terrace is the social outdoor space — garden furniture, a charcoal BBQ, a sun trap. Beyond it, a vast lawn — room for children to run, dogs to roam, the kind of garden you don't realise is rare until you've stayed somewhere with one.

A short guide to Porthleven and the Lizard Peninsula.

Porthleven is a working harbour village known for its restaurants — for its size, it has more good food than any other Cornish village, with a food festival each spring that draws people in. The harbour is genuinely working, with fishing boats moving in and out, and the village shops and cafés radiating out from it.

Porthleven Beach is the local beach — sandy, with rock pools and bodyboarding for older children. Boat trips run from the harbour in summer. The South West Coast Path passes through the village in both directions; the walks toward Loe Bar and Loe Pool to the east are particularly worth knowing about.

Kynance Cove, 14.2 miles, is one of the great Cornish images — turquoise water, white sand, rock formations rising from the sea. Worth the drive at low tide. St Michael's Mount at Marazion, 8.3 miles, is the tidal causeway castle that defines this part of the coast.

For ten people sharing a house, the en-suite-per-bedroom configuration is the detail that makes everything else work — nobody waiting for a shower, nobody navigating shared bathrooms.
